Concert Mermaid

The mythical long-haired mermaid that we know and love today originated in the middle ages and many of them were depicted holding or playing traditional musical instruments of the era. As a nod to her ancestral family, this blissful beauty is appropriately playing a ukulele as her hair floats up to the surface and across the upper bout. What’s not to love?

More on the Mermaid Design

Alchemy saw the mermaid as a benevolent emblem of enlightenment: “the siren of the philosophers.” Alchemical mermaids had two tails (ours does too!) representing unity of earth and water, body and soul, and a vision of the all-pervading “anima mundi” or world soul.

Look beneath the surface for submerged symbols and you’ll find an “A” for Alkemi, the element Water, the planet Neptune named after the Greek god of the seas, the symbol for Dissolution, Salt, the Moon, a Star, a Crown, and a Musical Note. The design is laser etched on the soundboard and then hand tinted for contrast.
